How come no news Anchors speak with a German accent on the DW News Channel on YouTube?

Main Post:

Is it their policy to hire only foreigners with natural English or American accents to become news Anchors?

Why don't they hire their own citizens? I wouldn't mind a DW News anchor speaking English with a German accent; I'd think the German accent sounds fancy and sophisticated. I think of high-quality goods when I think of anything German so I'd think German news Anchors would seem high-quality too.

Does anyone else think the absence of German accents on the DW (Deutsche Welle) News Channel seems kinda weird?

Top Comment: Germans with higher education usually speak English quite well and it is not uncommon to meet people who manage to sound like they are natives. I for example got taught to speak in a British accent - English native speakers often ask me if i learned English in the UK (i did not). Being accent free is also important: the news are not meant only for English native speakers, but also for people in other countries who speak English as a second language. To them, an accent would make understanding more difficult.

to peeps who excel in public speaking, how do you do it?

Main Post:

Can you guys give general tips to improve? To speak with conviction and authority? How to make our voice louder?

Top Comment: Modulate your voice. Yung you know you can sustain all throughout the talk or speech. Usually, yung mga malalim ang boses when modulated together with proper pronunciations and pauses really gets the audience. Dont be afraid to look sa eyes ng audience. Linger your gaze among the sea of eyes while talking. Sa ganung way, you establish a connection with them. Do not speak on a rush. If hindi naman time limited yung speech or talk, you could afford to insert cliffhanger pauses on the most striking parts of your speech. Aabangan ka ng audience mo kung ano yung sunod mong sasabihin. Utilize subtle hand gestures and facial expressions to emphasize emotions. Remember, youre talking in front of the audience to relay a message. Wag kang mahiya na i-exaggerate yung mukha mo if needed. Fake it til you make it. Walang solution sa kaba, it will always be there. Nanginginig na tuhod at panga, malamig na kamay, garalgal na boses, you name it. Pretend youre confident and sustain it until the end of the speech. These tips are what I learned from years of competing in oration, declamation, story telling, and debate contests. I also delivered quite a number of campaign speeches during my grade school and high school student council elections. I was also a news anchor and field reporter sa National School Presscon. I also host events and do voice overs. Good luck!

Ted Wheeler speaking truth about the news

Main Post: Ted Wheeler speaking truth about the news

Top Comment:

Let's not forget, the news is essentially what got Jason to do what he did, misguided as it was.

He was convinced that D&D led people to Satanic cults and worship and shit, all because that's what the news told him was happening.

Moral of the story is the news basically has always sucked at what it does and should always be taken with a grain of salt.

Recent IELTS takers, what was your writing and speaking topics?

Main Post:

I am going to pass an IELTS after a few days. Need some topics for practice

Top Comment: Speaking was about my neighborhood, crime, and what law I would change in the country. Writing Task 2 was about how the internet would replace schools as a source of knowledge (to what extent do I agree).
